What postage actually costs you
How it works: VAT is taken out of the price the buyer paid, not added to it. Commission is charged on that delivered price. Profit is what is left after cost, commission and your own postage. Margin measures profit against revenue excluding VAT; markup measures it against your cost.

Background
A marketplace sale has more moving parts than a shop sale, and three of them catch sellers out repeatedly. This calculator handles all three the same way the Re-Pricer app does when it decides whether a listing can move.
The price a buyer sees is VAT inclusive. If you sell at £120 with VAT at 20%, your revenue is £100 and £20 belongs to HMRC. Sellers who subtract 20% of £120 instead of dividing by 1.2 understate their revenue by £4 on that sale, and the error scales with every unit. This tool divides it out, and also shows the VAT actually due once you reclaim what you paid on stock and on the commission itself.
Marketplace commission applies to what the customer pays, which includes the postage they are charged. Selling an item at £20 with £3.99 delivery at a 15% rate means commission of £3.60, not £3.00. Free delivery does not remove the charge; it moves the postage into the item price where it is still commissionable.
Margin is profit as a share of revenue. Markup is profit as a share of cost. Buy at £10, sell at £20, and you have a 50% margin and a 100% markup. Pricing rules written against one number and checked against the other are how a "30% minimum" quietly becomes 23%.
On the OnBuy marketplace the commission rate depends on the selling category, and the spread is wide: 7% on consumer electronics and large appliances, 20% on jewellery, 15% across most general merchandise. A calculator that assumes a single flat rate will be wrong for most sellers most of the time, which is why the category list above is read from the marketplace API rather than typed in. The rate shown in your seller control panel is always the authoritative one.
Once the numbers are right, the work is keeping them right while competitors move. Re-Pricer recalculates this on every listing on every cycle and refuses to price below the floor it derives from your costs.
Stop recalculating by hand. Re-Pricer holds your margin and keeps you competitive around the clock.
